JAWA 250 ‘PÉRÁK’, 1946—53

The elegant Jawa 250 (types 10 and 11) was an international hit. It was nicknamed the Pérák as the rear wheel and saddle used adjustable leaf springs (‘péro’ in Czech) for suspension. The timeless construction of this machine, with a closed frame and patented telescopic front fork, was at least five years ahead of the competition. It made its debut at the 1946 Paris Motor Show, where it won a gold medal. At the London Motorcycle Show in 1948 it was such a sensation that it had to be cordoned off to keep back its admirers.
