JIØÍ TRNKA
A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM,
1959

After the screening of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Cannes Film Festival in 1959, critics from around the world referred to Trnka as the ‘Disney of the East’. This Czech artist, illustrator, scriptwriter and animated film director freed Czech and international animated and puppet film from American influence by focusing on artistry and poetry. In 1945 he founded the Czech film studio Bratøi v triku.
