The Czech New Wave of the 1960s is a phenomenon, and so too are the posters for those films. Around 1958 the Central Film Distribution Corporation began working with a number of filmmakers externally, based on the Polish model. It was a rare opportunity to enjoy artistic freedom and simultaneously earn an official salary. Zdeněk Palcr, Kája Saudek, Bedřich Dlouhý, Karel Teissig, Milan Grygar, Karel Vaca, Zdeněk Ziegler and many others gave the film poster humour and poetry, turning cinema foyers and streets into art galleries.
